Our educational institutes offer study programmes designed for international students. These programmes are conducted in English. Also other study programmes, courses or visit packages are possible to participate or arrange through English language or with the help of an interpreter. Here are examples of the programmes for international students in the field of forest bioeconomy.

Karelia University of Applied Sciences

1. Empowering the Regional Development and Innovation (eRDI)

Develop your professionalism in the bioeconomy hub

  • 15-45 ECTS
  • The programme is designed for International student group and teachers from foreign partner universities
  • The ERDI Course BIOECONOMY HUB includes three modules:
    • Innovation Ecosystem
    • Environmental Management and
    • Connect the Dots Training
  • The study components can be chosen by each student individually.
  • The courses include: Lectures and group work in the fields of bioeconomy and regional development
  • Excursions are arranged in North Karelia region, Finland
  • The programme offers a possibility to work as a trainee in a local company

2. Degree programme in Forestry

  • The programme is designed for International students
  • The programme includes courses from the themes:
    • Professional excursion
    • Social and environmental responsibility
    • Climate and energy planning
    • Environmental Management project
  • The courses include lectures and group workin the region of Forestry capital of Europe

University of Eastern Finland

Forest sciences: International Master’s degree programmes

UEF’s Forest Sciences is widely international educator and also active in international student exchange

  • 50 per cent of MSc graduates, and 75 per cent of DSc graduates participating have arrived from around the world.
  • Four of five MSc programmes are lectured in English and doctoral dissertations are done in international research groups.
  • UEF’s Forest Science researchers publish annually about 70 internationally peer reviewed scientific articles in leading journals of forest and wood sciences.

1. European Forestry

Top class understanding of sustainable forest bio-economy & European business culture

  • MSc European Forestry (MSc EF) is a top class taught Erasmus+: Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree Programme (EMJMD) in the field of forest sciences.
  • The quality of the programme is acknowledged by the European Commission, which awarded the MSc European Forestry Erasmus Mundus status for years 2004–2014 and for years 2016–2019.
  • The programme is a two-year interdisciplinary programme that provides academic education in the field of sustainable resource management with an emphasis on current bioeconomy issues.
  • MSc EF offers a new approach to forestry and nature management markets and it connects the increasing number of forest-related issues with a European dimension at international as well as national levels.
  • The objective of the MSc EF programme is to educate professionals who have a thorough understanding of a sustainable forest bioeconomy as well as the European business culture.

2. Forestry (CBU)

Expertise in renewable natural resources – with a strong international focus

  • Master’s Degree Programme (CBU) in Forestry is organized by The Finnish-Russian Cross-Border University (CBU) Consortium of four highly recognised universities in Finland and in Russia.
  • The programme is based on bilateral and international collaboration in the fields of forest and environmental sciences with aims to promote the ecologically and socially sustainable use of nature resources.
  • The aim of our programme is to develop your cross-cultural understanding and knowledge of different working environments.
  • The working language is English, and the studies are made both in Finland and Russia.
  • The extent of these two-year long studies is 120 ECTS points.

3. Transatlantic Forestry Master (TransFor-M)

Master’s Degree programme combining strong expertise from Finnish and Canadian university

  • TRANSatlantic FORestry Master is a two-year Master’s degree programme leading to a European and a Canadian Master’s degrees in forestry and environmental management.
  • TRANSFOR-M students learn about modern sustainable forestry and environmental management approaches and gain multicultural perspectives on environmental, economic, and social issues.
  • The studies consist of one-year studies in Finland and one-year studies in Canada.

4. Wood Materials Science

Widely popular programme internationally

  • Master of Science in Wood Materials Science is a course-based MSc programme that trains experts who make a difference towards a sustainable future.
  • This programme creates a link between wood and the final products such as bio-based materials, chemicals and energy derived from renewable biological resources.
  • MSc Wood Materials Science is a programme aims at training professionals who understand the entire chain from wood biomass production to product development and innovation management.
