The Joensuu Sports Academy is intended to serve as a support network for young athletes, whose goal is to achieve success at the highest national or international level. The Joensuu Sports Academy helps flexibly combine sports and studies in co-operation with upper secondary schools in the Joensuu city centre (Joensuu Communal, Lyseo, Normal School and Finnish-Russian School of Eastern Finland upper secondary schools), North Karelia Municipal Education and Training Consortium (PKKY) Joensuu, Eastern Finland Sport Institute, Karelia University of Applied Sciences, University of Eastern Finland and local sports clubs and associations.

Entrepreneurial path
The entrepreneurial path takes concrete form in the entrepreneurial studies and support measures used in Joensuu. Entrepreneurial education begins in comprehensive school and extends all the way to the enhancement of business operations. The entrepreneurial path is described through various activities, which are carried out at different levels of education. Some of the activities are focused strictly on certain business phases (e.g. testing ideas) while other types of activities might involve several phases in the lifecycle of a business. By combining the activities offered into a matrix, it is possible for the entrepreneurial path to consolidate all age levels and business lifecycles into an extensive support structure.
